Currently, performance assessments only use a small amount of recorded flight data, predominant in the form of aggregated indicators for situational evaluations. TU Darmstadt in partnership with Lufthansa Technik investigates the development of artificial intelligence tools to optimize aircraft performance analyses. Therewith, databased frameworks reproduce characteristics dependently upon routes, aircraft and environment in detail, for example, to model the fuel consumption. Machine learning methods allow significant improvements of analysis and prognosis accuracies compared to conventional procedures. As a result, the approach provides recommendations for the eco-strengthening of aircraft and contributes to a streamlined fuel planning management. The talk comprises model insights, results, best practices, and lessons learned from an application-oriented research for the implementation of an AI framework in aviation.
